Durez
Corporation's commitment to thermoset material technology started when
we first entered the phenolic business, 75 years ago. We are the world's
largest manufacturer of phenolic molding materials and offer the most complete
product line in the industry. Every Durez molding composite is specially
formulated to provide a balance of high thermal resistance, dimensional
stability, chemical resistance, strength, and electrical properties. Our
technical and sales staff consider these factors, along with processing
conditions, mold design, and overall cost when they recommend a material
for your application.
Global Presence
Durez Corporation is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Bakelite of Japan. This relationship has resulted in a state-of-the-art production facility in Ontario, Canada, which manufactures Durez and Sumikon high-performance glass-filled products. These materials fill the demand for composites which exhibit exceptional strength, temperature resistance, and dimensional stability. Typical end uses include motor housings, commutators, alternator slip rings, and transmission components; as well as other applications which were previously fabricated from metal materials. Additionally, this partnership allows manufacturing and distribution flexibility directly to Asia and the Pacific Rim through production facilities in Japan, Singapore, and China.
Technical Innovation
Durez works closely with molders and component manufacturers to develop and refine applications where phenolic composites offer performance and cost advantages over existing materials. For instance, Durez pioneered the use of phenolic pulleys in power steering systems, thereby replacing heavier, costlier metal parts, while improving performance and extending belt life. Our brake piston materials are routinely specified by design engineers due to their proven durability, insulating properties, and corrosion resistance.
Durez innovation extends beyond material technology as we have developed many improvements for material processing as well. Runnerless Injection Compression (RIC), and High Temperature Molding (HTM) were developed to improve processing, enhance molded material properties and improve cycle times. Additionally, waste is minimized in that process scrap is either significantly reduced or eliminated, resulting in reduced material costs as well as an environmental benefit!
Responsible Care and Product Stewardship initiatives include a pilot closed-loop recycling program where processed parts are reclaimed and recycled back into end use products.
Consistency, quality and customer satisfaction are built into every pound of material produced at Durez. For further information on our products or processing techniques, contact Durez.
